Formerly known as Wise Axe, ForePlay Bar landed at 20th and K Streets in Midtown’s Lavender District with a rebranded mission: less dedicated axe gym, more full-on social hub. The result is one of the more versatile stops on the grid — part bar, part arcade, part lounge — with enough going on that you could easily lose a few hours without noticing.

Activities & Games

The axe throwing lanes are still here and still staffed with coaches for first-timers, but that’s just the start. ForePlay also runs professional billiard tables, skee-ball, foosball, pinball, shuffleboard, Jet Pong, a punching bag game, and a rotating selection of video games. Free shuffleboard and tabletop board games are available for walk-ins. Whether you’re here for a competitive night out or just something to do with your hands while you drink, there’s no shortage of options.

Drinks

Sixteen taps cover a rotating lineup of local craft beers, ciders, and seltzers, backed by a full liquor license and a cocktail menu with some personality. The bar sits in a good spot for a pre-game drink before heading deeper into the Midtown night, or as a destination in its own right for groups who want activity with their alcohol.

Food

Snacks are available at the bar, but ForePlay takes a relaxed approach to outside food — guests are welcome to bring in food from any of the nearby Midtown restaurants. It’s a practical policy that works well given the neighborhood.
